Yesterday I discovered at home an old copy of FMR with an article about African sculpture. It seems that only part if Black Africa is known for its native works - Mali, Chad, and all states of the Atlantic coast from Gambia to Zaire. Outside these areas only some small places are known for something interesting. Franco Monti who developed this topic supposed that people from Asia, Muslims and Christians were the reason for the native culture's loss of its originality. And that seems really sad.

But the sculpures that impress us are not totally human in appearance. Heads bigger then the body, small foreheads, huge eyes and ears. When I started to make sketches several images merged into one in my head as I painted the face of a non-human being who probably came from stars.
